The artificial intelligences within worked to solve the problem and their failure to do so drove many, including Five Pebbles, to madness. In his frustration, Five Pebbles began an experiment to create an organism capable of self-replication and rewriting the self-destruction taboo out of his organic cells.
Doing so deprived
By now everyone knows that I am a big fan of 'arrogant' or 'mean' characters, especially if they are robots (P03, Wheatley....) so it was destined that I would like Five Pebbles. I first played Rain World on December, 27th 2023. At this point, it had been out for six years and I knew nothing about it, which was exciting, as I always get spoiled for whatever new thing I'm getting into.
I was instantly smitten by the game itself, something so unique and different than anything I had ever played. At that point, I would have had no idea the way this game would capture me. One night, I stayed up extremely late to play, and I think the moment I fully fell in love with the game was the ascent from General Systems Bus into Pebbles' chamber. I was already in love with the level of detail that Five Pebbles' region had, when Random Gods started and I travelled through those gorgeous rooms, I genuinely was in awe. Of course, it was nearly five in the morning... but I still feel the same way, a year later!
Ultimately, Five Pebbles is really nothing like the characters I referenced earlier, and I think that's why he's so special to me. At first he comes off as considering himself leagues above the little slugcat. But throughout every campaign, you piece together the truth of his character: a person who feels trapped, created to find a solution that is out of his reach. Guilt-ridden but devout to his solution. Self-sacrificial after losing everything by his own hand. He's multifaceted, but never intends to be a bad person. Obviously, I could talk about him forever. Hehe...
WIP // These are relationships that I find interesting between Five Pebbles and other Characters. This page will be constantly updating as I think more about him.
Looks To The Moon
Five Pebbles' close neighboring iterator and sister. The two's relationship is highly complicated, with Five Pebbles being the reason that Looks To The Moon's structure collapses. Despite this, she cares for him deeply, and he similarly cares in his own way.
The Artificer
The Artificer is a violent and vengeful slugcat, whose accidental contact with a citizen ID drone gives it the special ability to venture into the Metropolis region atop Five Pebbles' superstructure.
The two are similar, though Five Pebbles decries the violence that the Artificer carries out.
In no particular order, but all are important to me.
- Five Pebbles is nonbinary, being fine with all pronouns but favoring he/him.
- Despite being a supercomputer, he is autistic. This one is a bit of me projecting!
- He is the smallest of the Iterators in both Puppet and Superstructure height. This is because he is the newest - new tech keeps getting smaller! (Also, I am short, and projecting... again.)
- His favorite color is blue, with it being the color of his overseers.
